Wild Basil Plug Plants Clinopodium vulgare

Wild basil is a hardy native perennial commonly found in grasslands, woodland edges, hedgerows and chalk downland, where its clusters of pinkish-purple flowers are highly attractive to pollinators, particularly bees, butterflies and hoverflies. This long-flowering wildflower is an excellent choice for wildlife-friendly gardens, wildflower meadows and naturalistic planting schemes. It thrives in full sun or partial shade and prefers well-drained soils, including chalky and calcareous ground.

Despite its common name, wild basil is not closely related to culinary basil, although its aromatic leaves have a pleasant herbal scent when crushed. It is a valuable nectar source throughout summer and helps support a wide range of beneficial insects.

Our strong, healthy plants are grown in 40cc cell trays and are ready to be planting in their final position.

Sourced from native seed and grown for us in the UK, our plug plants are an ideal way to boost species in a wildflower meadow or to easily establish plants in your garden or in areas where seed germination can be erratic.

We recommend planting 5-7 plugs per metre square in groups of at least 3 per species for a naturalistic look.
