Description
Viper's Bugloss 9cm Pot Plants Echium vulgare
Also known as blueweed.
Viper’s Bugloss thrives in dry, sandy soils and also grows well on chalk or limestone, though it can adapt to heavier soils like clay or loam. In the wild, its striking spikes of vivid blue flowers appear from May to September, brightening chalk grasslands, sand dunes, cliffs, and banks. This hardy plant is both wind and salt tolerant, making it ideal for exposed sites. Its name is thought to come from the spotted stem, said to resemble a viper’s markings.
Recognised as one of the RHS Plants for Pollinators, Viper’s Bugloss provides an excellent source of energy-rich nectar for bees and other pollinating insects throughout the summer.
Sourced from native seed and grown in the UK, our 9cm pot plants are an ideal way to enhance your wildflower meadow or establish resilient plants in your garden or areas where seed germination can be unpredictable.
For the best results, we recommend planting 3 plants per square metre, grouping at least 3 of each species together to achieve a natural, flourishing look.
