Tufted Hairgrass Plug Plants Deschampsia cespitosa
Tufted hairgrass is a hardy native perennial grass commonly found in damp meadows, woodland clearings, riverbanks and marshy grasslands, where its graceful, airy flower panicles add movement and texture from early summer onwards. The delicate golden-green flower heads shimmer in the breeze and provide valuable habitat for insects, making this an excellent choice for wildlife-friendly gardens, naturalistic planting schemes and wildflower meadows.
This versatile ornamental grass thrives in full sun or partial shade and prefers moist, well-drained soils, although it will tolerate a wide range of soil types once established. Its attractive evergreen to semi-evergreen foliage forms neat, dense tussocks that provide year-round structure and shelter for beneficial wildlife.
Our strong, healthy plants are grown in 40cc cell trays and are ready to be planted in their final position.
Sourced from native seed and grown for us in the UK, our plug plants are an ideal way to boost species in a wildflower meadow or to easily establish plants in your garden or in areas where seed germination can be erratic.
We recommend planting 5-7 plugs per metre square in groups of at least 3 per species for a naturalistic look.
