Description
Red Valerian Plug Plants Centranthus ruber
Common names include spur valerian and Jupiter’s beard.
A striking, long-flowering perennial that brings vivid colour and wildlife value to sunny gardens. From May to September, clusters of deep pink to crimson flowers are held above fleshy, grey-green foliage, providing a rich nectar source for bees, butterflies, and moths throughout the summer.
Thriving in poor, well-drained soils and full sun, red valerian is highly drought-tolerant and will self-seed freely to naturalise in walls, dry banks, and gravel gardens. Its robust nature and long flowering season make it ideal for wildlife-friendly planting schemes, coastal gardens, and sunny borders.
Our strong, healthy plug plants are grown in 40cc cell trays and ready for planting directly into their final position.
Sourced from UK-grown stock, these plugs are a quick and reliable way to establish this resilient, pollinator-friendly perennial.
We recommend planting 5–7 plugs per square metre in loose groupings for a natural look.
