Description

Goat's Rue Plug Plants Galega officinalis

Common names include professor-weed and French lilac.

A robust, clump-forming perennial with tall spikes of soft lilac to pale purple, pea-like flowers from June to August. Goat’s rue is a valuable nectar source for bees and other pollinators and its leafy growth provides shelter for insects and small wildlife. Historically grown as a fodder plant and used medicinally, it brings both heritage and biodiversity to wildlife-friendly plantings.

Thriving in fertile, moist but well-drained soils and preferring full sun, goat’s rue is ideal for meadows, cottage gardens, and naturalistic planting schemes. Its upright, airy habit makes it a striking addition to borders and mixed plantings.

Our strong, healthy plug plants are grown in 40cc cell trays and ready to be planted straight into their final position.

Sourced from UK-grown stock, these plugs offer an easy way to establish this wildlife-friendly wildflower where seed germination may be uncertain.

We recommend planting 5–7 plugs per square metre for the best naturalistic effect.
