Description
Garlic Mustard Plug Plants Alliaria petiolata
Common names include jack-by-the-hedge, sauce-alone, and poor man’s mustard.
Brighten shaded corners, woodland edges, or hedgerows with this early-flowering biennial native wildflower. Garlic mustard’s delicate white blooms appear from April to June, providing a valuable nectar source for early pollinators.
As well as its wildlife value, garlic mustard has a long history as a foraged herb. The young leaves and flowers have a mild garlic flavour and can be used raw in salads, stirred into sauces, or blended into a vibrant spring pesto.
This adaptable plant thrives in moist, well-drained soils and partial shade, making it well suited to woodland gardens and naturalised areas.
Our strong, healthy plug plants are grown in 40cc cell trays and are ready to be planted into their final position.
Sourced from native UK seed and grown locally, these plugs are an ideal way to boost diversity in shaded wildflower meadows or hedgerows, and a useful addition for gardeners interested in edible landscapes.
We recommend planting 5 - 7 plugs per square metre, in groups of at least 3 per species, for a naturalistic look.
