Hart's Tongue Fern Asplenium scolopendrium

Hart’s tongue fern is an evergreen native perennial commonly found in moist, shady sites such as damp crevices and old walls, but occasionally in full sun. It has distinctive strap-shaped, glossy green leaves with orange spores on the underside. These marks on the underside of the leaves resemble centipedes legs giving the plant its species name of scolopendrium from the Latin for centipede.

Hart's tongue fern is often used as an ancient-woodland-indicator plant, a species which can help identify old woodlands and ecological continuity.
