Urban SuDS Seed Mix
A specialist wildflower, grass, sedge and rush mix developed specifically for Sustainable Drainage Systems (SuDS), including swales, bioswales, attenuation basins, rain gardens and other drainage features.
Designed for periodically wet, seasonally dry and freely draining margins, the mix supports a zoned vegetation structure across SuDS features rather than a single uniform grassland type.
The carefully balanced species composition combines wetland, marginal and meadow species with non-invasive grasses to reflect the complex hydrological gradients typical of SuDS environments. Species suited to wetter zones establish around basin floors and periodically waterlogged areas, while drought-tolerant meadow species persist across upper banks and drier margins, creating a resilient and diverse vegetation structure.
Selected species help improve soil structure and infiltration by breaking up compacted substrates, while also stabilising soils and supporting the long-term hydraulic performance of SuDS features. The mix performs best in low to moderate fertility soils with minimal nutrient inputs and is designed for long-term, low-input management.
Suitable for Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG) projects, the mix is intended to support the target creation of Sustainable Drainage System, Bioswale, and Rain Garden. Final habitat classification and condition should be confirmed by site design, hydrology, establishment success and competent ecological assessment.
