Description
Wild Red Clover Trifolium pratense
Common names include meadow clover, cow clover and kitty clover.
This low-growing native perennial wildflower is a common sight in a wide range of grassy areas including gardens, meadows and roadsides. It prefers full sunlight but will cope with dappled shade, and flowers from May to September.
Red clover is a nitrogen fixer, enhancing soil fertility, and is often used as a green manure.
The flowers are a great nectar source for many species of bee, including the common carder bee, honeybee and the red-tailed bumblebee.
The best time to sow red clover is in the spring from March to May, or in late summer from mid to late August.
All our native wildflower seed is sourced from stock grown in the wild in Britain. It is then multiplied up commercially and packed in the UK so you can be confident you are buying native British wildflower seed.
