Spindle | Euonymus europaeus

For a single row of hedging, you will need 4 plants per metre; for a double row of hedging, you will need 6 plants per metre.

Recognised by its distinctive pink fruit with orange berries, the spindle is popular in gardens for its autumn colour, and is commonly found naturally on the edges of woods and in scrub and hedges.

Its small white flowers appear in clusters in May and June and are a rich source of nectar and pollen for insects.  A wide range of wildlife enjoy its leaves and fruit as a food source.

In the past, the hard wood of the spindle was used to make “spindles” for spinning, hence it’s name, and for items such as pegs and knitting needles.

Our spindle whips are grown in the UK from UK origin seed.
