Description
Purple Loosestrife 9cm Pot Plants Lythrum salicaria
Common names include rainbow weed and spiked loosestrife.
These dramatic plants with their distinctive tall spires of reddish purple flowers grow in wet habitats such as riverbanks, reedbeds, marshes and wetlands where they can be seen rising up around the other wildflowers and grasses.
Suitable for a sunny or semi-shady site, these native perennials are ideal for riversides and pond edges, wildlife gardens and wildflower meadows. One of the RHS Plants for Pollinators, purple loosestrife is an excellent nectar source for long-tongued insects such as the red-tailed bumblebee and the brimstone butterfly.
Sourced from native seed and grown for us in the UK, our 9cm pot plants are a quick and effective way to boost species in a wildflower meadow.
We recommend planting around 3 plants per metre square in groups of at least 3 per species for a naturalistic look.
