Description
Goat's Beard Plug Plants Tragopogon pratensis
Common names include Jack-go-to-bed-at-noon, meadow salsify and yellow salsify.
Goat's beard is a charming native perennial with striking yellow flowers that resemble sunbursts and only open in the morning sun (hence the old common name Jack-go-to-bed-at-noon). Found in grasslands and meadows, it thrives in well-drained soil and full sun, attracting pollinators like bees and butterflies with its nectar-rich blooms. Its seeds provide food for birds, making it a great choice for wildlife-friendly gardens.
Perfect for adding colour and texture to natural landscapes or wildflower meadows, The roots of goat's beard can be eaten raw or cooked.
Our strong, healthy plants are grown in 40cc cell trays and are ready to be planted in their final position.
Sourced from native seed and grown for us in the UK, our plug plants are an ideal way to boost species in a wildflower meadow or to easily establish plants in your garden or in areas where seed germination can be erratic.
We recommend planting 5 plugs per metre square in groups of at least 3 per species for a naturalistic look.
