Bird's-foot Trefoil Plug Plants Lotus corniculatus

Common names include eggs and bacon, hens and chickens, butter and eggs and deervetch.

With distinctive egg-yolk yellow flowers, this low-growing native perennial wildflower makes a colourful addition to your garden or meadow.

Ideal for a wide range of grassy habitats, plant bird's-foot trefoil in wildlife gardens, wildflower meadows, informal cottage gardens and flower beds and borders.

Bird’s-foot trefoil is one of the UK’s most valuable wildflowers for wildlife and plays an important role in supporting biodiversity. Its long-lasting flowers provide a rich nectar source for bees, butterflies and other pollinators throughout summer, while its leaves are an essential food plant for the caterpillars of several butterfly species, including the common blue, wood white and six-spot burnet moth.

As wildflower meadows and flower-rich grasslands continue to decline across the UK, plants such as bird’s-foot trefoil are increasingly important for creating habitat corridors and safe feeding areas for pollinators and other wildlife. Adding it to your garden or meadow can help support a healthier, more diverse ecosystem.

Our strong, healthy plants are grown in 40cc cell trays and are ready to be planted in their final position.

Sourced from native seed and grown for us in the UK, our plug plants are an ideal way to boost species in a wildflower meadow or to easily establish plants in your garden or in areas where seed germination can be erratic.

We recommend planting 5 plugs per metre square in groups of at least 3 per species for a naturalistic look.
