Description
Bladder Campion Plug Plants Silene vulgaris
Common names include cowbell and maiden's tears.
Bladder Campion is a striking perennial wildflower often found in meadows, grasslands, and coastal areas. Known for its unique balloon-like seed pods and clusters of white or pink flowers, it’s a favourite among bees, butterflies, and other pollinators. It is one of the main food plants of froghoppers which are known for surrounding themselves with a protective froth - cuckoo spit - while feeding.
A hardy plant that thrives in well-drained soil and full sun, it can tolerate partial shade. Perfect for naturalized gardens or cottage gardens, bladder campion's young leaves are edible and can be used in salads.
Our strong, healthy plants are grown in 40cc cell trays and are ready to be planted in their final position.
Sourced from native seed and grown for us in the UK, our plug plants are an ideal way to boost species in a wildflower meadow or to easily establish plants in your garden or in areas where seed germination can be erratic.
We recommend planting 5 plugs per metre square in groups of at least 3 per species for a naturalistic look.
