Great Mullein Plug Plants Verbascum thapsus

Common names include common mullein and Aaron’s rod.

A striking biennial wildflower with tall spires of golden-yellow flowers rising above a rosette of soft, woolly grey-green leaves. Flowering from June to September, great mullein is highly attractive to bees, hoverflies, and other pollinators, while its seeds later provide food for finches and other birds. This architectural plant brings height and structure to borders, meadows, and wildlife gardens.

Preferring dry, well-drained soils in full sun, it is ideal for wildflower meadows, gravel gardens, and naturalistic schemes. Historically valued as a medicinal herb and for use in torches, great mullein adds both visual impact and biodiversity to any planting.

Our robust plug plants are grown in 40cc cell trays and are ready for planting directly into their final position.

Sourced from UK-grown native stock, these plugs are a simple way to introduce this dramatic wildflower where seed germination may be unpredictable.

We recommend planting 5–7 plugs per square metre for a bold, naturalistic display.
