Single snowdrops Galanthus nivalis autumn planting bulbs

Common names include, common snowdrop, candlemas bells and fair maids of February.

One of the first spring plants to appear in late winter and early spring, the white drooping flowers of this common perennial are often seen in large numbers creating a white blanket across the ground.  Once established, they naturalise quickly returning year after year.  Snowdrops are best planted in moist but well-drained soil in woodlands, lawns and under trees.  They are an attractive addition to rock gardens and the front of garden borders.

Plant your snowdrop bulbs around 5-10cm below the surface of the soil.  Let the foliage die back naturally after flowering as the leaves are still photosynthesising and sending nutrients into the bulbs for the next year's flowers.

Our highest-quality wildflower and meadow bulbs are grown in the UK from British plants.
