Dark Mullein Verbascum nigrum 

Common names include, tall mullein, Our Lady's candle, black-rooted mullein and Aaron's rod.

This native biennial, commonly found in grassy banks, hedgerows and roadsides, prefers to grow on calcareous soils.  It can grow to 2 metres in height with a tall flower spike of yellow blooms and distinctive hairy grey-green leaves.

An excellent nectar source for bees and other pollinating insects, dark mullein is one of the RHS Plants for Pollinators.
