Cornflower Plug Plants Centaurea cyanus

Common names include knapweed, bachelor's button, starthistle and basketflower.

An adaptable and easy-to-grow cornfield annual with distinctive blue flowers, cornflowers bloom abundantly from late spring to late summer and are particularly attractive to butterflies, bees and other pollinating insects. Their seeds are eaten by a variety of birds including goldfinches.

Once a familiar sight in arable fields across the UK, cornflowers have become far less common in the wild due to changing farming practices and habitat loss. As a result, they are increasingly valuable for supporting biodiversity and helping to restore vital food sources for pollinators and farmland wildlife.

Perfect for all kinds of wildlife gardens, wildflower meadows, informal cottage gardens, prairie planting, and flower beds and containers, cornflower is a versatile wildflower and is an excellent plant for a cutting garden or for drying.

Our strong, healthy plants are grown in 40cc cell trays and are ready to be planted in their final position.

Sourced from native seed and grown for us in the UK, our plug plants are an ideal way to boost species in a wildflower meadow or to easily establish plants in your garden or in areas where seed germination can be erratic.

We recommend planting 5 plugs per metre square in groups of at least 3 per species for a naturalistic look.
