Standard Native Hedging Mix

The bareroot whips supplied are 2-year whips and measure between 45cm and 90cm in height.

For a single row of hedging, you will need 4 plants per metre; for a double row of hedging, you will need 6 plants per metre.

Our Standard Native Hedging Mix is expertly composed of ten native British hedging species, chosen to provide year-round colour, texture, and wildlife value. From fresh spring foliage and delicate blossom to vibrant autumn berries, this diverse blend ensures continuous seasonal interest while supporting vital biodiversity.

This native mix is naturally low-maintenance, as the plants are well adapted to the British climate. Their hardiness reduces the need for additional watering, pruning, or specialist care. By choosing native hedging, you also help create a thriving habitat: the mix attracts birds, butterflies, pollinators, and other beneficial insects, enriching the surrounding ecosystem.

The Standard Native Hedging Mix forms an effective natural boundary, offering privacy, wind protection, and structure within the landscape.

This hedging blend performs well in a wide range of soils, including loam, clay, and sandy soils, provided drainage is reasonable. It is well suited to mild to moderately acidic conditions, where most species thrive strongly. However, please note that spindleberry (Euonymus europaeus) may show reduced vigour in more acidic soils.

If some species become unavailable, they will be swapped out for another appropriate species.
