Tufted Vetch Plug Plants Vicia cracca

Common names include cow vetch and blue vetch.

A vigorous, scrambling perennial wildflower with slender stems and dense clusters of violet-blue, pea-like flowers from June to August. Tufted vetch is a valuable nectar source for bumblebees, honeybees, and butterflies and plays an important role in supporting other wildlife by fixing nitrogen and improving soil fertility.

Thriving in full sun or partial shade, it prefers moist but well-drained soils and will happily grow in meadows, hedgerows, woodland edges, and wildlife gardens. Its ability to climb through surrounding vegetation makes it ideal for naturalistic planting schemes and pollinator-friendly habitats.

Our strong, healthy plug plants are grown in 40cc cell trays and are ready for planting straight into their final position.

Sourced from UK-grown stock, these plugs are an easy way to establish this important native wildflower in your garden or meadow.

We recommend planting 5–7 plugs per square metre in informal groupings for best effect.
