A compact perennial grass known for its sweet, vanilla-like scent, especially when cut or dried. Flowering from April to July, sweet vernal grass is one of the first grasses to bloom, making it valuable for early-season insects and as an early seed source for birds. Its fine, airy flower heads bring lightness and texture to meadows, verges, and wildlife gardens.

Thriving in a wide range of soils, including poor or acidic ground, this hardy grass is a key component of traditional hay meadows and wildflower swards. It establishes readily and can help add structure and scent to species-rich grasslands.
