Description

Sow at a rate of 13 kilos per acre.

Our Natural Horsemanship Long-Term Grazing Seed Mix is perfect for establishing new species-rich pastures. Specially designed for natural horses, this ryegrass-free, premium grass seed blend guarantees exceptional grazing results to keep your horses healthy and happy.

Offering the best resilience to intensive grazing, trampling and adverse weather conditions, these carefully selected grass varieties have strong root systems to help withstand heavy horse traffic and to protect your soil from the effects of erosion, giving you a sustainable and long-lasting pasture.

Separate blends of this mix are available for heavy-to-medium soil and for light soil.  While both blends contain the same reliable grass species, we have adjusted the quantities in each depending on whether your soil is light or heavy-to-medium, to ensure you get the best grazing environment and the highest yields.

Natural horsemanship mixes omit perennial ryegrass as the high level of sugars in this grass species is thought to contribute to an increased risk of laminitis in your horse or pony.  If left unchecked, this vigorous species can outcompete the beneficial wildflowers and herbs in your sward.

This natural horsemanship grazing mix contains timothy which adds to the palatability, cocksfoot which copes well with drought, smooth-stalked meadow grass and creeping red fescue which can help reduce poaching, and perennial forage herbs for a balanced diet.

Easy to order and very easy to spread and I am pleased to say that the patch in the field that I seeded is looking really green and sprouting happily!

Seeds arrived promptly and were hand sown, late spring into very heavy clay, that had been waterlogged all winter. Challenging conditions for any seed to germinate in! We then had another couple of months rain where the ground stayed very soft, yet the seed germinated and grew. I left it all summer and the ponies went into it this autumn. Much of it will perish due to the land and the waterlogging that occurs all winter, but the seed did so well, I’m just about to put in another order

Natural Horsemanship Long Term Grazing Ley Acre ( MEDIUM to HEAVY SOILS) 13kg
I did a lot of research and chose this mix of grass seed because it was high in Timothy grass and herbs for my elderly ponies. We reseeded one small paddock and a track, the seed established well over winter and the ponies have been on the grass since May. Ponies are doing well, they choose to eat this grass rather than the old ley areas. I also spread some seed along a new bank which is absolutely full of herb flowers, just stunning! Ponies will enjoy eating that later in the year! Overall, very good quality seed, no dust or rubbish, germinated well despite the very wet conditions, paddock looks healthy and track is coping well with heavy wear and being eaten down to the floor. Very pleased.
