Common Highland Browntop Bent Grass | Agrostis castellana
Common bent, or browntop bent, is a short perennial growing to a height of 70cm. It grows abundantly in the UK on moorland and waste ground. It will grow on most soil types but is particularly prevalent on poor acid soils.
Large areas of poorer soil are often dominated by this species. It has a relatively low feed value but is widely used for fine lawns, putting and bowling greens.
