Dog Rose | Rosa canina

For a single row of hedging, you will need 4 plants per metre; for a double row of hedging, you will need 6 plants per metre.

This distinctive hardy, native shrub is a familiar site in hedgerows and woodland edges where its pale pink sweetly scented flowers can be seen during May and June.  The berry-like red hips ripen in September and October.

The dog rose is a vigorous climber, using its curved prickles to grasp onto other shrubs to support its growth and can grow up to 3 metres in height when well supported.

The flowers are an important source of nectar for insects, and the fruit a useful food source for birds such as blackbirds and redwings. Its dense nature makes it an effective shelter for wildlife.

Our dog rose whips are grown in the UK from UK origin seed.
